Agricultural Charcoal (Biochar) – Overview
Mitti Gold Organic Agricultural Charcoal, commonly known as Biochar, is produced through a controlled pyrolysis process that converts biomass into a stable, carbon-rich material. Unlike ordinary charcoal, agricultural biochar is specifically processed to enhance its pore structure, surface area, and soil compatibility.
When incorporated into soil, biochar acts as a long-term amendment that can remain effective for hundreds of years — making it one of the most sustainable investments in soil health available today.
🔥 Long-Term Impact: A single application of quality biochar can improve soil productivity for 10–50+ years, unlike most fertilizers that lose effectiveness within months.

Key Benefits
- Increases water retention in sandy soils — reduces watering needs significantly
- Improves drainage in clay-heavy soils — prevents waterlogging and root rot
- Raises and stabilizes soil pH — reduces soil acidity naturally
- Provides a permanent habitat for beneficial soil bacteria and fungi
- Reduces nutrient leaching — keeps NPK in the root zone longer
- Sequesters carbon in the soil — a proven climate-smart agriculture practice
- Compatible with all organic and conventional farming systems
- Ideal for degraded, low-fertility, or heavily-cropped soils
🪴 How to Use
Calculate Your Application Rate
Use 5–10% biochar by volume of topsoil, roughly 200–500 g per square meter of garden bed.
Pre-charge with Nutrients (Optional but Recommended)
Mix biochar with liquid compost, vermicompost tea, or diluted fertilizer 24 hours before soil application. This "charges" the biochar with nutrients for immediate plant benefit.
Incorporate Deep Into Soil
Till or manually dig biochar into the top 6–12 inches of soil for optimal root-zone impact. For pots, mix into potting medium at 10–15% by volume.
Water Thoroughly
After incorporation, water well to begin microbial activation. First-season results may be modest; long-term benefits compound over multiple seasons.
