Application Rates for Heavy Vines
Gourds (Cucurbitaceae family - including Bottle Gourd, Bitter Gourd, and Sponge Gourd) are aggressive climbing vines that produce heavy fruit loads. They rapidly exhaust the soil around their roots. Mitti Gold Vermicompost provides the sustained, slow-release nutrition these vines need to keep producing late into the season.
Dosage per Acre
For commercial cultivation on trellises (mandap system), apply 2.5 to 3 Tonnes of Vermicompost per acre during the final land preparation.
Feeding the Plant During Fruiting
Because gourds produce fruits sequentially, they need constant feeding.
Per-Plant Application
Apply 300 to 500 grams of vermicompost per pit before sowing the seeds. Once the vine reaches the trellis (around 40 days) and starts flowering heavily, apply an additional 200 grams per plant at the base, keeping it 2 inches away from the main stem, and cover it with soil.
Preventing Flower Drop
A major issue in gourd farming is the premature dropping of female flowers. The rich profile of phytohormones (gibberellins and auxins) in vermicompost strengthens the pedicel, dramatically reducing flower drop and increasing the total number of fruits set per vine.
Improving Fruit Shape and Color
Nutrient deficiencies often lead to crooked, bent, or pale gourds. The balanced micronutrients in Mitti Gold ensure perfectly straight, dark green bottle gourds and bitter gourds that command the highest market prices.
Longer Harvesting Window
Unlike chemical urea which gives a sudden burst and then fades, the organic carbon in vermicompost feeds the vine slowly. This extends the harvesting window by 3 to 4 weeks, giving you more pickings per crop cycle.
